I, too, used to believe the Lockerbie link with the McKie case was pure rubbish and told that to a number of reporters, even as recently as last week. I am NOT a conspiracy theorist. But with the fact that the head investigator for Pan Am airlines himself has come out supporting the conspiracy theory, along with things I heard from people I would consider highly reliable while I was in Scotland for ten days last month, I am beginning to back off from my "no way, Jose" attitude and question whether these reports might not be credible after all. Like you, Patrick, I will watch what happens, although I am not "sitting back."

Mr. Wertheim. Are you saying that you believe the FBI, an agency you have lauded since May 2004 for their handling of the Madrid misidentification, would advise another agency to sweep their alleged error 'under the carpet?'

No. I said that I have denied that I believe any connection between the McKie/Asbury cases and Lockerbie up to this point. However, when I read quotes from the lead investigator with Pan Am airlines in which he says that he believes that evidence was fabricated and that there is a conspiracy to cover up the truth, and in which he says there is a link between McKie/Asbury and Lockerbie, then it makes me wonder if I have been correct in denying any such link exists. On the surface, it would appear this man is not connected to either SCRO, Strathclyde Police, or anybody else having a part of the investigation of Marion Ross' murder. If the Lockerbie investigation got the facts correct and the right people were convicted, why would a Pan Am representative speak out like that? I still don't see what the FBI would expect to gain by sweeping the McKie case under the carpet. An unrelated mistake there would not likely have jeopardized the trials in the Lockerbie case in the Hague. But I am not so naive as to believe the FBI would never play politics. Like I said in my post, at this point I am watching what happens in that regard. But I'm not "sitting back," meaning that whatever the case with the FBI and the Lockerbie allegations, I am very much involved in the McKie/Asbury cases themselves.
