The gist of the article is that the photo analysis unit is unscientific because there's no scientific basis for their conclusions. They even give stats :? albeit they don't seem to be rooted in any sort of statistical model. It's no surprise that Simon Cole and Itiel Dror weigh in as well as Karen Kafdar.

It seems odd that a good 15 years after Mayfield and all the hullabaloo that ensued that the FBI hasn't performed reviews on all their comparative analysis disciplines.

What advice would you give our friends in the unit?
