The figure quoted by Kasey's article ('1 in 1097') has already been re-quoted in the New Zealand Herald a week or two ago, where did this originate?

1097 is an error caused by cutting and pasting the correct figure, which has the 97 in superscript (to represent powers), into a format that does not recognise superscript (such as this forum). The 97 is converted to normal text and it ends up as 1097.
