I have to agree with ER. I couldn't see not processing firearms. In my experience, prior handling (by agency personnel) definitely is the biggest factor in recovery rates. The best success I have had is on magazines and ammunition that is left in the magazines prior to lab submission. As long as the magazine is not in the weapon (and the chamber has been cleared as was graciously pointed out to me. Thank you sir, you know who you are.) I guarantee it's not going to discharge. Some agencies seem so intent on stripping ammunition out though... :roll:

Personally I want to continue to process firearms. This is an ongoing Lean Six Sigma project to best determine how to handle multi disciplinary requests in a more timely manner and without missing any sections request. Currently, where I work, the property room takes the magazines out of the weapons as well as the cartridges. They like to count the cartridges so they can say how many the received... Hopefully in the future we can work with them on not doing this, as well as other evidence handling measures.
