With the next pay raise (hopefully, I will be making Senior Latent Print Examiner soon--if the city doesn't freeze pay raises) I will be be making the same pay as I did in California 20 years ago! Whoo-HOO!

My journey has taken me through California, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Colorado, Florida, and Texas:
Weather: California--hands down!
Salary: California--hands down!
Morons, criminals, wretched cost-of-living, horrifying traffic, $500,000 "fixer-uppers," nutjobs: California--hands down!!!!
Working conditions: Texas all the way!
Good cost-of-living and affordable housing: Split between Texas and Wisconsin--Tie-breaker: you don't get snow up to your #$$@ in Central Texas.

72 Applicants and some with Masters Degrees. WOW---times are changing.

There was a time when all you could get was 5-6 and they had HS Diplomas with a few GED's thrown in.

Not that I have anything against HSD's and GED's just an observation that times are a changing. (Or the economy is getting bad).

David well said. From my POV it is hard to beat TEX-MEX on the plate and a ice cold one in the hand.

Dear Ann, when it snows in Central Texas the locals lose their minds. We have the very occasional ice storm and THEN the city is locked down.

Boy, your photo brought back some memories! Some of them even pleasant. My first year in Wisconsin there was a blizzard to start the winter and the snow was so thick it was up to the eaves of my house. I opened my garage door and the avalanche nearly swept me off my feet. THAT I don't miss at all. Sometimes I miss the times I could curl up in front of my fireplace with a hot chocolate and watch the gently falling snow. It was best on a Friday evening and I knew I would not have to dig out until Monday. You don't ever get that in Central Texas. When it snows here, it barely covers the ground and it never sticks.
