It seems important that witnesses are encouraged and allowed to speak the truth confident that while they might be called to account for previous lies and illegitimate actions their voluntary revelation of the truth will be taken into account in deciding what action, if any, is to be taken against them.

When it was pointed out to Iain McKie, in no uncertain terms, that he or his daughter would be told by the Court whether they gave evidence or not the following codicil was meekly added to that website.

It should be noted that Shirley and Iain could not and would not refuse to give evidence to a judicial enquiry under oath.
They will however no longer be specifically campaigning for an enquiry.

The "McKies" can walk away and are walking away from campaigning for an inquiry given that they have devoted a decade of their lives to obtaining justice in the face of organisations such as Unison.

Ms McKie was cleared of perjury and received £750,000 from the Scottish Executive in an out-of-court settlement earlier this year.

Ministers have rejected repeated calls to hold a public inquiry into the case of the former police officer, from Troon in Ayrshire.

Many a man would have given up after ten years fighting for justice (And who would have blamed them given what they have been put through) but thank God Iain & Shirley have persisted in their quest for the truth or we would not be having this Public Enquiry.
