Rosetta, from Peckham, wishes to visit her grandmother in Chigwell, but is not sure where it is or how to get there. She goes to a local map shop and the shopkeeper sells her a superbly detailed street map of South London. Sorted. She goes home and pours over the map. No Chigwell. Undeterred, she returns to the map shop the next day and the shopkeeper sells her another superbly detailed street map of South London. Sorted. She goes home and pours over the map. No Chigwell. The following day, she again visits the map shop and the shopkeeper sells her a superbly detailed street map of South London. Sorted. She goes home and pours over the map. No Chigwell.
This goes on for three months until one morning the shopkeeper says "look Rosetta, we used to have 80-100 copies of that map but you have bought them all. May I suggest that you look slightly higher up using my superbly detailed street map of North London". She agrees. Back home she pours over the map. Bingo! Chigwell at the top right corner. Not only that, she can see that the streets at the bottom of her new map match the streets at the top of her old maps and she can work out her route.
Then a thought occurs to Rosetta. "Why did the shopkeeper not just sell me a bigger map that covered the whole area"?
The answer Rosetta is that he is a salesman and salesmen have agendas.
The truth

Why would Rosetta not know where grandmother lived? Because she wasn't really grandmother... she was mistakenly assumed as such in the beginning. So why did the shopkeeper continue selling maps? I think on this point you speak the truth, Damascus: "he is a salesman and salesmen have agendas."
Which map do you prefer, Damascus? What is your agenda?

Hi Nigelus. I find the secret of comedy is not to have to explain it afterwards, but here goes.
["Why did the shopkeeper continue to sell her maps"?]
Well, you know that old trick you do with dumb dogs where you pretend to throw a stick and the dog runs anyway? They come back all waggy tail and lolling tongue and fall for it over and over again. The dumb dogs will continue to perform all day (and the next, and the next). After 80-100 times however, the smarter dog smells the rat and will not run. He simply sits and stares at the stick. I think the shopkeeper has reached the point where smart dog is staring at him.
["Why did Rosetta not know where her grandmother lived"?
The TRUTH is rather more prosaic. Granny had recently moved. She used to live in Cockfosters, some 66 degrees west of Chigwell!

Any maths student will tell you that to define a rotation fully you need to specify both the angle and the origin (the point about which you are rotating.)
Where is the origin of this rotation? No-one has ever said.

Hi Sark. With reference to your post of Thurs June 29th.
Yes, I noticed, but was not surprised. We must surely all be in agreement that to have brought the science of Fingerprints to such a bitter impasse, Y7 must be a very difficult mark indeed? I say difficult rather than complex since that may be interpreted as its possessing disparate parts which I am not in a position to affirm or deny. Just VERY difficult. Even at that, Pat found it simple enough to dismiss in less than a minute whereas John Berry took months before he found his Rosetta characteristic.
I would therefore find it strange indeed if all experts in agreement as to the origin of Y7 were also in complete concordance, with regard to quantity/quality, during the analytical stage of their examinations of either the mark or the fingerprint form. Fingerprint experts, in my experience, tend to overlook the concept of events being "consistent with" when expressing OPINION. Often their interpretation of how a fingerprint was deposited is delivered with a certain verity only possible from one who was actually present at the deposition of the mark. Explanations as to the level of pressure used, what direction and degree of twist, what level of quantity/quality is present, was it a single/double touch etc. These are inferences drawn from experience of, in the main, looking at marks post deposition. While not in the least dismissing this evidence, I simply wish to point out that, in comparison to the sequential agreement of ridge detail, it is the element most open to interpretation.
I may be slightly off with ths figure, if so I appologise. I believe that Justice 1 heard from 11 experts who supported the identification of Y7. In view of the above, I would actually be concerned if they were all in complete agreement with every single aspect of the analysis. I think the fact that they did not, rubbishes the conspiracy/criminal theory. As the Buddhists say, " The ways to the one are as many as the lives of men".
