Hot Sauce Fingerprints – Rest of the Story
I posted a brief inquiry on behalf of an interested party for information on the use of ‘hot sauce’ for printing of difficult fingers. I was to pass on any information posted for use in a school science project by the individual’s daughter on the method. There were no responses.
Here is information to date: This technique was presented at a class presented at the FL/GA IAI conference by an FBI instructor. It was recommended that ‘hot sauce’ could be applied to difficult fingers and then the fingers massaged to increase blood flow which would improve the finger surface, the sauce removed and there could be an improved record print. The person was seeking some additional information as they, and many others contacted, had not heard of this application.
However, there were some trials on the person’s own fingers and the process did “swell the pattern area and produced a ‘larger/clearer’ print”. It was also used on a ‘floater’ which was de-gloved and they were able to obtain an inked print.
The agency is continuing with evaluations on live subjects and post-mortem situations.
My sole contribution was the additional entry on the post concerning capsaicin influences, which was passed on the inquiring party. I am too busy being retired to do anything in this area but to pass on names and contacts to the original party of individuals that may be interested in the progress of the ‘school project’ on this technique.
