how to use densitometric measurement to improve contrast ?

do anyone know how to use densitometric measurement to improve contrast of ninhydrin fuming treated fingerprint?
I read this on a JFS paper"Advanced solvent-free application of ninhydrin for detection of latent fingerprints on thermal paper and other surfaces，Lothar Schwarz, Dr.Phil.Nat, Inga Frerichs, Journal of Forensic Sciences, Nov.2002 Vol.47, 1274-1277"
but the author just mentioned it in the end......
