Firearms examiners & gloves...

Hi everybody, I'm sure that this has probably been asked on this board before so I'll apologize in advance if this topic has been beaten to death previously.
Does anybody out there work in a lab that mandates their firearms examiners wear gloves, masks, or other appropriate items while handling firearms, casings, or cartridges to prevent contamination? If you do...would you please provide insight as to how or why they were convinced to do so.
