I’ve heard of so many training budgets that are cut this year that I thought I’d share some relatively inexpensive training options with everyone. These might not be inexpensive if you have to send someone out of town for the class but it’s a great price if you bring them to your agency and have several people trained.

Jon Byrd – Current Issues and Advanced Latent Print Training
Alice Maceo – Analysis of Distortion in Latent Prints
Jon Stimac – Intermediate Comparison of Friction Ridge Impressions
Steve Everist - Charting Latent Prints with Adobe Photoshop
And the FBI can give their Daubert Class at your local agency (instead of trying to qualify for the Marshal University Class)

Portland PD just sponsored a new training class that addresses the current tough questions being asked in court (for tenprint and latents), so I thought I’d share this training with you.

This class is offered by Heidi Eldridge from Eugene, Oregon and addresses testimony questions (vs testimony mechanics). The class highlights the current tough questions and discusses the good and bad aspects of different answers. In the end, the answer an expert chooses to use is their own but it was valuable to hear current criticisms for standard answers. The class was two days long but I think the class could have easily spent another day debating different possible answers to questions like:
Has ACE-V been validated?
Is your conclusion to the exclusion of all others?
What is the error rate for fingerprint comparisons?
And many, many more.

If you’re looking for some new training options, this class would be a great one to consider bringing to your area!!! Heidi will also be offering workshops on this during the 2011 IAI Conference.
