Looking for a particular article...

Hi,

I searched the term 'scar' in Ernie Hamms Fingerprint Index and came up with this article titled: "Scarred Fingerprint Patterns" by Ronald J. Duck. It says that it was in the Identification Newsletter, 7:2 (1984). I have searched through the IAI's Publications Archive CDs and was not able to find it. If anyone has the article or knows of a way I can get a hold of a copy, please let me know. Thanks!

Anne

Anne,

Sorry about that, but over the years the file suffered disruptions when data entry went awry (Excel shifting cells when least expected and unknowingly). I found an old index listing stored away on a back-up floppy. The correct publication should be Identification Newsletter (early publication of the Identification Canada), 7:2 (1984), I hope.

I wish I could provide a copy, but my professional journals went to NCSTL at Stetson University Law School. If you are unable to locate a copy, contact NCSTL (www.ncstl.org) and request a copy. That is what they are all about and why I selected them to receive my reference material.

Oops, I did not read your post correctly. The entry was correct as Identification Newsletter, NOT IAI's Identification News.

Anne, when you get a copy of it are you going to sweet talk Boyd in putting up a link to it? I would be interested in looking at the article you listed.

Last year I tracked down an article titled "The Case of the Disappearing Scar" that was listed in the Identification News from 1980 but that page was missing from my IAI CD.

With all due respect to the author I do not see that as a scar.

If you want to trade some scarred patterns I have some from the old FBI Law Enforcement publications.

Charles,

I have sweet talked Boyd into posting the article. I have to say that the article is not quite what I was expecting... it has a few examples of what patterns looked like before and after an injury/scar formed. There is one paragraph of text. Nothing too exciting...

If you have some examples from the FBI publications that you would be willing to share, I would love to see them! I am very interested in scars on the fingers in regards to different types, sizes, etc.

Here's Anne's idea of "Sweet Talking"; "Boyd, Ernie told me I should sweet talk you into putting the article up"

According to the 'article' apparently they were using the 'Let's Hope they're still identifiable" method, the little known predecessor of ACE-V.

Boyd,

It wasn't Ernie who told me to "sweet talk" you... it was Charles! Get the facts straight... :) But thanks for posting it!

That author must hold the record for the shortest article!

That article shouldn't get the full 10 points for IAI recertification in my opinion....if it does I'm submitting some of those smiley faces to JFI with my CV pasted in the middle.
