Performance Checks of AFIS - are agencies doing this?

Does your agency perform any type of maintenance or performance check for AFIS (both state/local and IAFIS)? What type of performance check? How often is this being performed? If you are completing these types of performance checks, why did your agency begin completing them?

We do not perform any type of maintenance on our AFIS system, as the performance monitoring of the system is completed by Morpho and the Department of Public Safety in our state. We are a remote user of the state system, and DPS is the owner of the system.

Our position is that this type of performance check is completed by DPS and the vendor so we shouldn't need to perform additional maintenance checks. No other agencies in this state are performing this type of maintenance/performance check (that we know of).

Please vote in the poll and leave additional information in this thread. Thanks!

We perform no maintenance checks or what some other agencies are now calling validation checks. The ones I have seen is they take the same print each month. Scan it and run it and record the results in a log book. Viola----it is vaildated for the month.

Works great for getting the bean counters and accreditiation junkies off your back and some say you can even go into court now and state your system is validated (maintained) every month.

In my POV running the same print each month to write down the score does not cut the mustard for maintenance or validation. Does it take much time----no. Does it take much thought---no. Does it prove the instrument is in proper working order---well maybe or maybe not. Does it satisfy some element that someone higher on the food chain wants you to do---yes.
