I recently learned about the NIN Fixative from some Examiners I met in a recent training class.
Our agency has never used it, and I'm curious what others in the industry think about it.
I was told that it increases contrast, as well as prevents fading.
One Examiner said they photograph each print before and after the fixative is applied. Is this standard for most agencies?
This agency also applies the fixative with a Q-tip, to only the prints that are of value. Is this standard?
Have any agencies decided against the use of it, and why?
Are there any thoughts on how long after the item has been processed, to allow for delayed development, you should wait before applying the fixative?

I used them earlier in my career with mixed results; I now have two unopened bottles of Nin Fix in our flammables safe; have never opened either one....I think that a properly photographed latent developed after ninhydrin lives longer than the latent treated with fixative. If you have a policy/procedure/protocol; follow those. If not, process with whatever formula of ninhydrin you're using, photo, repackage and be done with it....
