A former student of mine has a case coming to trial in which bare footprints were identified to a suspect. The defense plans on attacking the footprint identifications on the grounds that there is no research to show that footprints are unique. I have referred the examiner to the works of Dr. William Babler and have the utmost confidence the defense motion will fail. However, as an additional tool for the prosecutor to use, can anyone make quick reference to other cases in which friction ridge skin impressions from the feet have been challenged and withstood defense attacks?
