2006 IBMBS Conferrence in Shanghai in March

Dear Fellow Pattern Recognizers:
For those of you who want to learn more from serious contributors to Human development and well being that serious behavioral and medical biometrics offers, plan to come to Shanghai for the Second International Conference of IBMBS on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 20, 21, and 22, 2006. Accommodations will be about $50.00 US a day. Registration costs remains the same as for the first conference except for this: If you are unable to afford these prices, contact me. We are making alternative registration fee arrangements for those who are retired, those who are students, and those whose income is reduced because they work or live in a country that does not have wages comparable to those generally earned in the U.S., Canada, and throughout the more affluent parts of Europe and some other places in the world. For those whose income is so limited, we are doing the egg comparison. Let us know how much a dozen eggs (or a specific weight in eggs) costs in your local economy, and we will compare what the same amount of eggs costs in US dollars and reduce the registration fee accordingly (reserving the right to be the final arbiter). Fritz Pang is also looking into special rates for accommodations for students, etc. So we hope to have some information on Hostel type rates soon. You are on your own for transportation.
An exciting program is shaping up. Mary Lai (Taiwan) and Fritz Pang (Hong Kong) and their associates will bring us up to date on the continued development of their MMEA programs with children and in other areas. Lysander Poon of Kuala Lumpur, who is developing hand analysis for business human resource applications, and who plans another conference later in 2006 in Malaysia, has also promises to attend. Dr. Wang Chenxia, (China) who uses hand analysis extensively for diagnostic analysis, and whose work in traditional Chinese and Tibetan medicine is well known in China and SE Asia, is trying to arrange her schedule to attend and make a presentation and there will be no visa problems to prevent her presentation at this conference. We hope to hear from Imre Somogyi (Belgium & France) on his scientific research on reading the morphology of toes that he advised would be completed in December. Dr. Arnold Holtzman reports that a number of his students who are practicing therapists, have expressed their willingness to attend with the intention of representing Psycho-Diagnostic Chirology. At this time he has3 confirmations and another 3-4 maybes. Between them they may have 2 papers to present. Jon Miles is working on some exciting new 360E digital hand image capture hardware that we have discussed and has promised demonstrations for the conference. Those who were at the last conference will remember him demonstrating his iris camera and special lighting in a version sold to the Egyptian government. I may share some new observations in diagnostics dependant upon chronic and transient observable surface vascularization of the palm. We will be discussing the assimilation of some exciting new IT technologies such as Prof. Asim Roy’s, Ph.D. (Arizona State University) Auto Learn program and programs for generic pattern recognition. The Auto Learn program has been develop by a master mathematician and can take and integrate new data to existing data bases and programs to teach the programs new patterns of analysis and distinction. More exciting program contributors are trying to make arrangements to attend.
We can use sponsorship to help defray costs. This is a great time for hardware and software sponsors to begin to support our efforts as they will be able to meet and discuss the future of the fields with leaders from around the world and get in on the ground floor of what may be described as a new multi billion dollar annual market..
We are happy to announce that IBMBS has its own Political Lobbyist in the U.S. After some of the negative comments we received before our first conference from at least one U.S. governmental agency and the State Department refusing to grant Dr. Wang a visa to make a presentation, it has become obvious that we have an educational problem. We are grateful for the volunteering of Sean L. O’Sullivan, our secretary, to act as our Lobbyist in the future. Sean comes from a family with long ties in American politics, a lifetime in working in politics, and a driving nature that should not only keep us informed of governmental policies that may affect us, but also can find the ears of the public policy makers in the U.S. who we need to educate of the potential contributions and value of our work to society as a whole. Welcome aboard Sean.
On a practical note, we lost many e-mail lists with a computer crash earlier in the year. While there is still some hope of regaining them we need as much help in distributing the conference information as possible. This crash also precludes me reaching some more recent correspondents, so please pass the word along, and if you did not receive this email directly from me, but as a result of being on a list or having it forwarded to you, please contact me directly and if I owe you correspondence, accept my apologies for not responding sooner.
