I'm reasonably sure it is all public information available from other sources, but it is a little spooky that there is a database like this.

The "database" need have nothing in it but bare name and discipline information. I collect all that on expert witnesses in a short time as a regular thing, both to vet opposition and to select one to use. CV's are posted for many experts and available on request from all. That delivers more than half of what they promise. There is more than one web site that will report all your social media venues. Professional licensing and significant discipline are mostly public and online. Involvement in litigation comes from Westlaw and the courts' web sites. The catch-all is the note at the end that they'll tell you how to access things. For $450 to $900 a throw, I'd sure pull that together on an expert. They wouldn't be fudging. For that money, each could indeed be personally worked up by a researcher. It's easy. I suspect that's what they do, just have a bunch of contract researchers on tap working from home.

You know, there's nothing to say they can't just pick up the phone and get a bunch of stuff from the witnesses themselves. Most are in the business and readily provide whatever you need to decide it you want to hire them. Give me an average of one job a day, and I'd be okay with $9,000 to $18,000 a month or even splitting it halves with the web site owner. It would just be a part time job at that level. Plus, a lot of these folks are frequent fliers, and after a while, you've got their profiled ready to go with just a quick update. And there's going to be a tendency for particular classes of litigants to use the service, and litigants of any one type are going to be looking at the same experts, making it pretty efficient. It will be almost exclusively civil practice and predominantly medicine and engineering.
