Job Posting for Latent Print Examiner

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual for the position of Latent Print Examiner with the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio. This is a civilian position assisting in law enforcement investigations. The laboratory performs case work for numerous agencies throughout Southwestern Ohio.

Position Description

•Analyze latent prints to determine value for comparison purposes or for AFIS entry;
•Compare latent prints with known fingerprints and palmprints to determine common source;
•Development of latent prints on physical evidence submitted to the laboratory;
•Enter suitable latent prints in AFIS;
•Operation of lab equipment, LIMS systems, computer systems/software and cameras;
•Provide expert testimony in court and prepare court charts when needed.

Minimum Qualifications

•An Associates Degree
•Three years of related experience, experience may be waived at the discretion of the Laboratory Director;
•A knowledge of the fundamental principles of the fingerprint science;
•The ability to process evidence for latent prints and identify latent prints using the ACE-V methodology;
•A good overall knowledge of basic computer operations including, but not limited to, MS Word, MS Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.

Preferred Qualifications

•A Bachelors Degree in a natural or physical science, criminal justice or related field;
•Certification by the International Association for Identification as a Certified Latent Print Examiner
•Previous experience as a court qualified expert in the field of Fingerprint Identification and documentation of testimony (video transcript of testimony preferable);
•Working knowledge of ASCLD/LAB-International accreditation standards.

Conditions of Employment

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screening test and must undergo a criminal background check. Candidates may also be asked to take a polygraph test. Experienced candidates must be able to pass written and practical tests prior to employment. The Latent Print Examiner is required to achieve the International Association for Identification Latent Print Certification test when they meet the qualifications. The hired individual is considered a probationary employee for one year from their start date.

Salary Range: Negotiable and commensurate with experience
