We are looking into purchasing Wacom Cintiq screens for our Latent section. There is a number of choices out there, so I was wondering if anyone is currently using one in their latent case work? What are some pros and cons of these screens? Is there a certain model and size of the screen that you would recommend over the other (or would NOT recommend at all)?

I browsed through several forums and had found that the "touch" option on Wacom Cintiq 22HD Touch and Wacom Cintiq 24HD Touch supposedly don't work with Adobe Photoshop CS6 (which we are currently using for image processing). I assume that this refers to "hand commands" like zoom and pinch, but that the stylus otherwise works just fine?

I've seen Colorado's state lab using these dual screened with a regular widescreen display. May want to contact someone from there.

We used the Wacoms in a dual screen setup at my previous agency and they were pretty helpful when you wanted to trace ridges during a complex analysis or note additional features or areas that would be harder to document with a mouse. We also had to mark the latents with our initials and some additional identifying information, which was made possible with the Wacoms (at least for our initials). Once you get familiar with the buttons and customize everything how you like it, it can be a really useful tool.

My current agency just purchased the 13HD to use as a 3rd screen, but we are waiting on some cables before we can set them up. Previously they had the pen tablets that did not have a display, which I would not recommend (although one of our examiners likes them).

I would definitely recommend the 22 or 27 in a dual screen setup, and if your agency can afford it you might as well get the larger size. As for the issue with the “touch” not working on CS6, I am guessing that is something that will be addressed with a software patch by Wacom. I would find it hard to believe that such an important feature, which you are paying a good deal extra for, would not be patched if it was found not to be working in Photoshop. You may want to contact Wacom about this if you are on the fence between the touch and non-touch displays.
