Job Description:
To serve as a civilian employee of the Indiana State Police whose primary responsibility is to function in a probationary entry-level position involving an in-house training program to support the Laboratory's technical and leadership responsibilities in forensic identification analysis, which includes latent prints, Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), footwear, tire impressions and physical comparison cases.

Responsibilities:
To perform administrative functions as necessary to maintain analytical accuracy. To acquire and maintain analytical proficiency in forensic identification analysis. To maintain effective communication with the scientific and criminal justice communities and other Department personnel. Ability to testify in court as an expert witness, senior Scientist, Discipline Specialist, Program coordinator, or Technical Manager in an objective and professional manner. Ability to perform complex scientific procedures following Laboratory Examination Guidelines. Ability to adhere to established laboratory safety practices.

Preferred Experience:
A Baccalaureate degree with science courses. Experience in evidence collection and preservation is desirable. Successful completion of an Indiana State Police approved forensic identification training program, and competency testing in the areas of latent prints, Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), footwear, tire impressions and physical comparisons. Basic knowledge of the theory and practical application of a variety of scientific instrumentation and analytical techniques. Must be able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, with both scientific and nonscientific personnel. Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Must be able to differentiate color as evidenced by medical certification. Must be able to attend training at alternate locations for extended periods of time. Must be able to travel by aircraft or other vehicles. An employment toxicology screen will be required.
