Not only do we have to cope with the "CSI Effect" in testimony when attorneys, jurors, and even judges think they know all about forensic science because they watch TV shows featuring forensics, now social media is enabling amateur detectives to engage in their own investigations. The results can be devastating to police investigations.

Oh, this is nothing new. Reddit has been at that game for some time now. There's a reason we testify to, and courts want to qualify training and experience, because sometimes lack of it comes with disastrous consequences.
