Microsoft Fingerprint Reader

Has anyone purchased or used the Microsoft Fingerprint Reader to scan in images for personal use, tours, practice, etc (noncase work)?
It runs $44 at our local "OfficeMax", and thought I would see if it can be used to get an image. It's intent is to be used to replace the typing-in of passwords. I just want to play. The technical spec sheet says it's an optical type and not a capacitive type, like the Sony brand.
Or if it doesn't let you get an image file can the hardware/ software be hacked to get one?
