Job Announcement - Forensic Scientist - Latent Prints

Greetings all,
Just wanted to let you know that the Phoenix Police Department has just opened four Forensic Scientist II positions in the Latent Print Comparative Section. I can personally say that the Phoenix Police Department is a wonderful place to work. I've been here for approximately four years and have truly enjoyed it. The Forensic Scientist series includes classifications ranging from Forensic Scientist I - Forensic Scientist IV. You can go to http://phoenix.gov/JOBSPECS/findex.html to see the pay ranges for each. The working environment will soon include a new 100K square foot crime lab which is currently under construction and scheduled for completion in August, 2007. FORENSIC SCIENTIST II
RECRUITMENT DATES June 12, 2006 – June 30, 2006
SALARY $20.23 - $30.27 hourly / $42,078 - $62,962 annualized.
Appointments to positions in the Police Department are subject to appropriate polygraph and background standards.
EXPERIENCE Requires a bachelor's degree in a natural science, criminalistics, or a closely related field, and completion of the twenty-four month Forensic Scientist I (NC) training program; two years of crime laboratory analysis experience may be substituted for the training program. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
There are currently 4 vacancies in the Latent Print Comparative Unit of the Police Department’s Laboratory Services Bureau. These vacancies require a minimum of two years crime laboratory analysis experience in the comparison and identification of all types of friction ridge detail. Experience with the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) is preferred.
Future vacancies in other units, which do not carry the latent print experience requirement listed in the paragraph above, are anticipated over the life of this 12-month Eligible List.
DUTIES Applies the physical sciences to the investigation of crimes by performing laboratory analyses on physical evidence. Independent judgment is required in the performance of these duties. This classification is an entry-level classification requiring training through extensive reading, observation of case work analyses, attending workshops/seminars, examination of forensic training samples, and the successful completion of a mock court program.
ALSO REQUIRED Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
RESIDENCE Maricopa County residency is required within 24 months after the date of hire and must be maintained.
