We have a photograph with FRD partially visible in blood (on the back side of the photograph) several opinions have been given for the most desirable processing method;
1. DAB
2. Amido black
3. Ninhydrin
(Not necessary in that order)
Would appreciate your opinion(s)

First photograph using a variety of light wavelengths and filters. You would be amazed to see what comes up! I can't recommend anything specific, but photography is non-invasive. Then, maybe try a little magnetic powder. I have had good results on photos with mag powder. If that doesn't work then maybe you can get blood-specific. I find ninhydrin reacts well on blood prints. It really depends on the coating, or lack thereof, on the photo. Remember: always photograph first. And have a nice day!

If the paper is coated, DAB should be used first, which I prefer as it is less reactive than Amido Black, followed by Amido Black. Photograph after each stage. There is also the option of using Superglue followed by staining or powder, this should be consider, it would be less destructive than DAB or Amido Black.

It is most likely that the chemicals will affect the photo finish on the other side!

I'm not sure that Magna is the best option but if used first I can't see it would affect the chemical treatment mentioned above. However it will reduce the superglue reaction.

Why not get some old photographs on the same type of paper and find out which gives the best results.

Ninhydrin will work if the paper is not coated but will most likely be destructive.

Sorry, I most definitely agree with Sharon about using photography and the various light wave lengths before doing any treatment, some times you will get sufficient for an ident without further treatment.
