The question came up in our unit about different types of tape, and what works well when attempting to lift powder from CD's. Most we have tried lift the coating and all, and we wondered if anyone had a good luck with any specific type or brand of tape, that would lift just the powder and not the coating. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 8) 8)

We have had success with two different styles of lifters.
1. Pro-Lifts (available from a few sources including Tri-Tech)
2. BVDA gel lifters.
Just remember when using the gel lifters that your image will need to be reversed for AFIS searches!!

Hope this helps

Unless you are hooked on the idea of tape per se, I have had nothing but good luck using either Mikrosil or dental stone. Both work like a charm on dusted prints on CD/DVDs. You do still have to reverse the print, but they fit right on the scanner glass so this is really a snap, too.
