For the first time, Adobe is making available a public beta of Photoshop CS3 for download tomorrow. See the announcement from product manager John Nack here: <http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/>.

There are some great new features in this version, including a more extensive non-destructive workflow using Smart Filters. If you have CS2, you can download and install this beta.

Wow - Christmas comes early!

Is it any (registered) user of CS2? The reason I ask is that I've got the Creative Suite (ver. 2.0) as an upgrade from a full version of Photoshop 5.0. So I do have a registered version of PS CS2 through the suite, but it's as an upgrade.

Also, how long is the beta version good for?

I guess I had better read the blog in case this is answered there...

Steve - I'm not sure if there are an restrictions, but I believe the public beta is open to anyone with Photoshop CS2, whether it's part of the suite or not. And, I'd only be guessing about how long the beta is good for, but I think it will show when activating.

One key feature for forensics users will be opening images as smart objects, then applying filters as smart filters, allowing them to work almost the same as adjustment layers currently do. The main difference being how they handle masking. But, this opens a substantial number of adjustments as re-editable, non-destructive adjustments.
