I posted a request for some assistance a little while before the "old" message board went down. I did receive a few replies via E-mail, but I thought I would repeat my request on this "new" message board:

I am a relative newcomer to the NEC AFIS 21 system.
I would greatly appreciate some assistance in best utilizing the NEC system for searching latent prints. I would like to glean as much information as possible on "best working practices" from any users who have been shown or have discovered the best way to input latent prints onto the system (tracing vs. LEXS, effect of minutiae placement, axis orientation etc.)

Lloyd,

There are many things to consider with searching latents in AFIS. First and foremost is your rolled database for latents. Is it made up of only live scan records, or was the ACOS version originally used to populate your database. There are differences in the Feature Extraction between the two versions.
I highly reccomend you join AFIS Internet.org and attend an annual meeting. This years is next week in SanDiego. There you will get a chance to have conversations with NEC users all around the globe.

Feel free to contact me further at senesef@isp.state.il.us for more AFIS info.

Frank.

Although I use a different system in CT, the Massachusetts State Police use an NEC AFIS 21 System. You can reach them at (508)358-3170. The folks there have always been very helpful. Hopes this helps you out.
