And we call Japan a "civilized" country???? I had no idea. It's uncomfortable to be confronted with ones own naivete...and smugness.

I wish I thought that no Americans would engage in the type of behavior of those Japanese police to which the article referred. But, if I were a cynic, I might put it to you this way: If you had to serve a jail sentence, would you rather serve it in Japan, Abu Graib, or Gitmo?
