A couple of years ago my department used some grant money to purchase security cameras for monitoring activity inside and outside police headquarters and the local court. Across the street from headquarters is a bank. After a couple of bank hold ups in the area a patrol commander instructed one of the public safety dispatchers to keep a camera focused on the branch across the street from headquarters. About a week later the bank was held up. The patrol commander asked the dispatcher if the camera was still focused across the street. The dispatcher repiled," I did what you told me and I left a note on the controls not to adjust the camera." The patrol commander retrieved the video footage and got just what he asked for. The dispatcher focused on the branch across the street. For an entire week the camera was focused on the branch of a maple tree across the street.

1)Back in the late 90s, two guys robbed a bank in our county. On the video, one guy with a revolver held it to the neck of a bank patron. You could see white stuff protruding from the gun but the video was real grainy so you couldn't see what it was, that is until the bad guys were caught about 15 minutes later. The gun was a .44 magnum revolver, however, the bad guy purchased .45 caliber bullets and they didn't fit quite right. So he stuffed tissue paper around the bullets to make them fit and stay in the gun. Glad he didn't pull the trigger.

2) Still in the 90's, a guy robs one of our banks and stuffs the dye pack down his pants and flees the bank. The dye pack exploded in his pants while he got away. Through info from witnesses and someone who knew him, the guy was arrested. Suspect had a huge scab (4" x 5")area just above his groin which a search warrant was obtained to collect. The doctor grabbed the edge of the scab and yanked the whole thing off real quick. OOWWW! The scab came back from the lab with a 'hit' for bank dye pack residue.

3) In 2005, fella robbed a bank with a note. Note said he had a gun. As the guy was walking out with the money, the teller announced, 'That guy just robbed me!!!!' Well, this was payday and several large able bodied men chased the suspect a few hundred yards, tackled him and beat, I mean held him until officers arrived and arrested him. Of course he claimed 'I'm Innocent!.' What makes it better is that he had a paper bag stuffed in his pants with the exact amount of money that was stolen. Got an ID from a print off the bag too. (just a little icing on the cake)
