Actually, I did want to thank the conference planners, committees, and volunteers for a really amazing conference and programme. In particular, Jim Gettemy did an unbelievable job of coordinating all of these speakers, accomodating everyone's needs, and taking care of all that shipping. Great job Jim. Once again, it was a pleasure to present to the membership.

(by the way, Steve, I really liked your presentation. It made me think quite a bit and coupled with the data I presented on exclusions, has me really pondering about how we as a community approach exclusions. I think excluding can be one of the easiest things we do, yet in other circumstances one of the hardest. Great job, man.

Now forget about fingerprints for a few days and enjoy some family time and watch your TiVo! I still don't know who got bounced on So You Think You Can Dance.....

I think congratulations are in order for Glenn, & Ed german for the "Distinguished Member Award," as well as Steve Meagher for the "Dondero Award." There were numerous other awards as well, but I didn't take notes on who received what. So, congratulations to all of you too.

There's so much talent at these conferences, I feel like a fish out of water.

I feel a bit like the farmer who had a mule that somehow made it into the Kentucky Derby. People laughed at him and said, "You don't really expect him to win, do you?" He said, "No, but think of the company he'll be in!"

I guess everyone else didn't fly home just before midnight Friday like I did... and then spent Saturday "decompressing" on a boat in Lake Washington and Lake Union. Now I have to battle sunburns in those areas that I missed with the SPF60...

I think the most unfortunate thing about the amazing number of presentations is that I missed a lot of them that I would have liked to attend. Jim and crew had a lot of organizing on their plate for sure!

Thanks Glenn. When I submitted for presentation, I didn't really have anything in mind to cover and was afraid that I wouldn't have a chance at filling an hour. It all started to fall together over the last few months, and the coverage on the board and during the four days before my presentation helped too.

I had many very good workshops and took home a few more skills. Glenn's study with the European guys was interesting but it left me a bit confused. I hope he will talk about it more on the forums here.

Ann, a couple of things:
1) Just to clarify, I assume you are referring to the Statistical Modelling workshop presented with Champod, Neumann, and Chamberlain. If so, I didn't actually do a "study". I simply presented the intro lecture getting people acquainted with the idea of probabilities and how they aren't so scary and foreign from a conceptual level (and DO apply to us in ways examiners may not have considered).

2) If you have a few specific questions you would like to ask, why don't we start a separate thread, titled "Questions from the IAI Workshop on Fingerprint Statistical Models". Start with your specific questions and we can go from there. I will do my best, but defer to Christophe or Cedric if beyond my knowledge base.

3) One note, your workshop was the first one. I think the second one went a little smoother. We had worked out some of the issues and confusion which occurred in yours. We do apologize. I think we need to do this a few times to get all the bugs worked out. But, keep in mind, this is the first time anything like this has ever been done AND kudos to you and other attendees for actually giving this a try and seeing how evidence can be examined from a probabilistic approach. That in itself is absolutely ground-breaking and a huge departure from the status quo.

I was pleased to hear many people, even of 30+ years experience, come up and say: "I am not convinced, but I am interested and want to know more".

That is a victory as far as I am concerned. Truly.

One thing I may do is start a new part of the message board related to the San Diego topics. I'll look into doing this later this afternoon, that way specific topic areas can all have their own threads and be grouped together.

I've created a new forum for topics associated with the San Diego IAI Conference. Just go to the Forum Index link (at the top of the page) and you can choose that forum from the index.

If it turns out not to be worthwhile, I can move everything back to the common/public forum and remove it.

I have a couple of questions which I think are very important. I have taken your suggestion and started a new topic in the IAI Conference forum for statistical modelling (click on 'Forum Index' above)
