1 in 1097 or 1 in 10 to the power of 97

The figure quoted by Kasey's article ('1 in 1097') has already been re-quoted in the New Zealand Herald a week or two ago, where did this originate?
1097 is an error caused by cutting and pasting the correct figure, which has the 97 in superscript (to represent powers), into a format that does not recognise superscript (such as this forum). The 97 is converted to normal text and it ends up as 1097.
You may notice this hapenning with other things, such as references in papers etc.
