Coordination with QD discipline on evidence

For those latent print sections out there that also are in a laboratory with a Questioned Document section, I am curious about your practice for marking of evidence (i.e., lab #, item #, initials, etc.). Do you allow the QD section to mark documents in any way when those documents are also required for latent print processing and examination, since the marking of that evidence could interfere with potential analysis of any devloped ridge detail? Do you have a lab policy dictating what's acceptable or do you have an "understanding" with the QD section on what markings they are allowed to place, if any, on evidence to be examined for latents? You may reply to markmills@ongov.net if you don't wish to post here. Thanks in advance for any replies received.
