CLPEX Chat Board

The forum will be upgraded tonight between the hours of 8:00 PM Pacific (11:00 PM Eastern) and 3:00 AM Pacific (6:00 AM Eastern). The home page link will point to a new implementation of the board and users will need to log in for the first time in order to post. After that, login should be seamless if you allow cookies and check the box to always log you in.

The upgrade is on hold for further debugging, but it will be done as soon as some server side problems are solved. In the meantime the forum's search function will not work temporarily as it is being debugged as well. Search functionality will be back as soon as possible.

We are ready to try this again after working out our approach. The forum upgrade will be occuring tonight, Tuesday June 3, at 11 PM Eastern. Hopefully it will only take a few hours.

Are we going to version 3.X?
It looks like they've got a lot of added functionality to this version (ability to embed youtube videos, etc...).

I like the new upgrade-----Neat.

When I opened it up I first thought I had hit the wrong button and was on the Philosophy Forum.

As you have probably noticed, the upgrade last night was successful. If you find any bugs or if your account has been effected, please post a message here. Please make sure it's not already a known issue with phpBB 3.0.1 before posting bugs here. The known issues can be found at this URL:

Known Problems:
- Alerts will not carry over from old version (ie: A thread you were being alerted about in version 2, you will not get new alerts until you either resubscribe or post again)

New forum capabilities exist that did not exist with the last version. One of these capabilities is the ability to create user groups. Read the FAQ's for additional information, and if anyone has interest in using this capability, please let Steve or I know. There is currently only one usergroup.

What are usergroups?
Usergroups are groups of users that divide the community into manageable sections board administrators can work with. Each user can belong to several groups and each group can be assigned individual permissions. This provides an easy way for administrators to change permissions for many users at once, such as changing moderator permissions or granting users access to a private forum.

Where are the usergroups and how do I join one?
You can view all usergroups via the “Usergroups” link within your User Control Panel. If you would like to join one, proceed by clicking the appropriate button. Not all groups have open access, however. Some may require approval to join, some may be closed and some may even have hidden memberships. If the group is open, you can join it by clicking the appropriate button. If a group requires approval to join you may request to join by clicking the appropriate button. The user group leader will need to approve your request and may ask why you want to join the group. Please do not harass a group leader if they reject your request; they will have their reasons.

A usergroup leader is usually assigned when usergroups are initially created by a board administrator. If you are interested in creating a usergroup, your first point of contact should be an administrator; try sending a private message.

I am currently experimenting with usergroups and will see how they work. It appears that, once created, they exist within the user's own control panel.

At this point, I'm still feeling out version 3.0 to see what I can do with it as it is much more comprehensive than the old 2.X board was.
