Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Latent Prints, the Senior Criminalist will serve as a subject matter expert in the field of latent print examination. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: examination of submitted items of evidence for the presence or absence of latent impressions using a variety of chemical and non-chemical techniques; evaluation and comparison of latent impressions using ACE-V methodology; electronic capture and documentation of latent prints to include digital enhancement techniques; conduct automated searches of latent impressions through local, state and national AFIS databases as deemed necessary; preparation of analytical reports on analyses conducted and maintaining records of all work performed; provide expert witness testimony in courts of law; provide instruction to agency personnel on the proper methods of recognition and collection of latent print evidence; and other related duties as required.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a minimum of four (4) years of full-time professional experience as a latent print examiner. A bachelor's degree in forensic science, physical science, criminal justice or related field is required. Must possess current Latent Print Examiner Certification from the International Association for Identification or meet all requirements for testing. Significant experience in the areas noted above as "essential functions" is required. Applicants may substitute a master's degree in one of the aforementioned degree areas for one year of the experience requirement.
A CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK WILL BE CONDUCTED ON ALL APPLICANTS.
BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED
