We have a job opening for a Criminalist I in our latent print identifcation unit. NH is a great place to live and work. We have no income or sales tax, we are close to the ocean as well as the mountains. For big city excitement, we are about an hour from Boston. The job is working in the NH State Police Forensic Laboratory, an ASCLD-LAB accredited laboratory. There are currently five examiners in the identification unit. We are a very cohesive group, knowledgeable and progressive. There are lots of training opportunities. There is plenty of work and overtime is available but not mandatory. Our duties are mostly laboratory type work but we do assist with crime scenes about four or five times a year - just enough to keep it interesting. Other duties include, teaching at our police academy, vehicle processing and sometimes taking deceased prints at the morgue It all keeps the work varied and interesting. Criminalist I – Fingerprint Examiner

The NH State Police Forensic Lab (ASCLD/LAB accredited) is seeking a trained and court qualified latent print examiner to fill an available position. Latent Print Examiner Certification by the International Association for Identification and footwear/tire track experience is desirable. Other experience/qualifications will be considered.

Salary Range

Current: $42,095 - $56,097

Effective 1/09: $44,410 - $59,182

Job Duties

Process physical evidence to develop latent impressions. Document developed impressions utilizing digital cameras and enhancement software. Compare identifiable impressions with known inked impressions. Conduct Tri-State (ME, NH & VT) and Integrated (FBI) AFIS database searches. Generate technical reports and give expert testimony in depositions and criminal trials. Occasional crime scene work. Instruct law enforcement on various fingerprint techniques. Develop/validate new standard operating procedures and protocols as necessary.

Qualifications

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in chemistry, biological sciences or forensic science. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Two years’ experience in chemistry, biological sciences or forensic laboratory duties. Additional years of related work experience may not be substituted for the formal education required by this position.

No, you do not have to be a US citizen to apply.

In fact, examiners from abroad have gotten Visas to work in neighboring states. I am not sure of the process, but you certainly don't need to be a citizen to apply.
