Cyano-Blue dye?

I was doing some research into different processing chemicals and was looking on Lightning Powder's website, where I came across a Technical Note for Cyano-Blue dye. They say that this is a new dye stain that has been developed and is non-toxic, non-flammable and safe for the environment, oh and it also comes premixed! I have asked around at the office and no one seems to have heard of this new chemical... I am just curious if there is anyone out there who has heard of it and has used it in their lab? Please let me know if you have and what you thought about it? We are considering ordering some to try it out! Thanks.

Personally, I have not used it. But usually if you call these vendors they will send you a free trial (they may even be willing to send you a couple if you mention that your agency is thinking about a validation study to implement it into your processing sequences). Also, sometimes these "trade names" have a more familiar chemical name...but I see that this one (I found the MSDS) does not...

I had the opportunity to try this out at my previous agency a couple of years ago. I was not impressed with it at all. The contrast it created was very poor. One reason for this may be that we were using hand-held Crime Lites, which are not as powerful as some of the other light sources on the market. If you have a better light source like a poly-light or handscope you may be able to get better results.
