Next time just watch the police tow the van, OK?

Post by Cindy Rennie »

This is from a recent Toronto Police occurrence report:

On Monday July 26th 2010 at 8:25am police receive a call from security at an address in the City of Toronto regarding a white GMC Safari cargo van that had been parked for an extended period of time.

A parking enforcement officer attended the scene to attempt to contact the registered owner of the vehicle. The plates on the vehicle were registered to a Nissan Altima. The VIN was registered to a 2004 white GMC Safari cargo van that was reported stolen from Ottawa.

Police attended the scene and gained entry to the locked vehicle via the drivers’ window which was left open. Inside the front compartment of the vehicle police located two set of Ontario licence plates, one of which was registered to the vehicle and one of which had been reported stolen. Inside the rear of the vehicle police located two motorcycles, a red Yamaha YJ1 scooter and a blue Triumph 600, both of which had been reported as stolen.

As the vehicle was being prepared to be towed, a male ran to toward the tow truck yelling "Stop, stop, that's my car, that's my car!" The male was in possession of keys to the GMC Safari and the Yamaha scooter. A further search was conducted of the GMC and keys for the Triumph motorcycle as well as keys for an unknown Ford were recovered in the centre glove box.

The male was subsequently arrested.
