Charlie Parker's passing

Charlie Parker’s comments and insights will indeed be missing.

I had an idea and was wondering; why don’t we establish an award in his honor, the ‘Charlie Parker research award’. I would suggest that this award be given to a forensic examiner who has conducted research (not as part of a degree). This award can be financial or to cover expenses to go and present at a conference, etc.
To do something like this, we can raise funds through:
1. Contributions (I for one, will be happy to contribute to this cause)
2. Maybe someone who knows the family can approach them and see if they will want to help establish this award in his name.
3. Perhaps the IAI can be the official body that administers this award, and also contribute.

This is just an idea.

Charlie Parker was a dear friend from the Wilstie Building and Hoover Building days at the bureau. We would also meet up at the international meetings and discuss the science the we both loved so much. Something else that sets him apart from many was that like me, he was a Vietnam Veteran. To live through that makes many of us very lucky.
HIs Fingerprint Interest Group was a constant reminder that no matter how long we have worked in this wonderful science of ours, we could always learn something new by just paying attention to the ridge flow. In fact, I believe that the FIG should be required in any training of new Latent Examiners or Physical Scientists. As his friend, I cannot say enough about the man that has helped us all in this field in one way or another.
