Latent Print Sourcebook

I'm delighted to see that the Latent Print Sourcebook is now complete. I wish to commend all those that worked hard to make it; it truly came out excellent. I've already began to re-make my unit's Training Manual to include the Sourcebook as our major source of study and resource material.

Does anyone know if it will eventually be published as a hard or soft cover book? I have all the sections downloaded, but I'd still like it in book-form if and when it becomes available.

I have heard that NIJ is trying to have hard-copies for the upcoming IAI conference. I am pretty sure they would also make them available on the sourcebook web page also, but I'm not sure when.

While the Sourcebook has fifteen chapters and a total of almost 400 pages, there is nothing I know of wrong with killing a tree and printing off the entire thing for a three ring binder if you want, or saving it to view on your Kindle or Nook.

Yes, I hope that they will at least give the authors a hardcopy given what a rather unpleasant experience it was to work on this project. I, and several other authors, were very disappointed by the entire process. I am pleased that these chapters finally have been released, but many of us wondered if they ever would see the light of day. I do wish to thank certain NIJ individuals for ensuring that this project did not die out and pushing to finally get the chapters published.

If you should read my chapter and wonder if Langenburg has been asleep the last 5 years since he seems unaware of some good research from 2007 to the present...yeah...well...most of us wrote our chapters back in 2006! We had an opportunity to do minor edits in 2007.... So I feel, almost somewhat embarrassed, that my chapter is rather dated and lacking already. I suspect there are other chapters that suffer similar issues and already need updates (e.g. the legal chapter, etc.).

Please keep that in mind when reading some of these chapters!

That's if you have the first generation Kindle. I was in the process of converting Michele's Fingerprint Dictionary into a Kindle format for eBook sales through Amazon, but didn't have one to test with. The conversion process wasn't very successful at that point. Then I was given a Kindle in March (2nd gen) and emailed the PDF version to my Kindle address. It looked great.

So you should be able to read the PDF version on a 2nd gen Kindle.

Is there one combined PDF of the entire sourcebook? I'm thinking I can combine them into one with Acrobat if there isn't.

Aren't most of your reference documents still on Papyrus?

Papyrus? You darned kids. My original latent print documents were hieroglyphics carved on stone tablets and carried down from the mountain by Moses "Dave" Grieve. I translated them to modern runes and engraved them into soft clay for my first class of students, which was a lot easier. Papyrus came much later. Papyrus is for wimps.

I have to say though, how many Kindles (2nd generation) will still be readable in 30 years where as Papyrus documents are still readable after 3000 years and as hieroglyphics carved on stone!!

If you downloaded or printed chapter 9 (Examination Process by Vanderkolk) when it first came out some of the images were really digitized/blurry/pixelated. They have since fixed the problem so the images are clear.

Kindle and Nook have been mentioned. Does anyone have any idea if it can be downloaded to an iPad? Most of the books I downladed are open domain from a free app site. Perhaps Bill Shade can assist me on this one!
