stats on latent recovery/AFIS entry?

Does anyone have or know where I can find, any stats/totals on what might be considered an "average" number of workable latents recovered vs. scenes worked and/or possibly a rate of return of hits vs. entries into AFIS, etc. I know on TV they always get prints, but if anyone in the lab got workable prints even half the time they tried I would know they were cheating...but are there studies to back this up or even any other agencies who keep a "count"??

Our new commander has asked for some stats from the CSI and Latent units. I am compiling data on # of lifts recovered, # of workable prints on the recovered lifts, # of those prints that are AFIS quality and # of hits off those entered, but also would like some info from other agencies, if available, regarding what your experience has been with these numbers to help put them into context.

Any numbers you actually have from compiling them or even just a gut feeling, if you include your primary duties and years of experience, would be helpful.

Aaaaand, just because I've been on this board awhile: I am not looking to have a debate on what "workable" means or how "dangerous" misinterpretation of these stats would be, etc. My boss and the new big boss are both reasonable people and it is not unreasonable to have a meaningful measurement of work product. My purpose is only to provide them with a perspective other than mine on the importance or lack thereof regarding the numbers I'm getting so far.

will happily send you one of the draft chapters of my PhD thesis (not the accepted draft note) that looks at this very issue.....can even send some raw data if that helps, though it will be anonymised of course. Makes for interesting reading in my view around AFIS usage and utility.....might want to look up a paper by Jeff Gold in 2004 around AFIS usage in UK....interesting and not so different from my findings either!!
