Kind words indeed. But there are many many other forensic experts out there, not only doing a great job, but also demonstrating every day dedication and professionalism that many would marvel at. A PhD (when awarded) signifies reward and recognition for a body of research that is considered contributes to the literature and makes a new and original comment on the chosen subject. I am not the only one who can claim that. Look at Dave Ashbaugh, Dave Grieve, Graham Huges, Kasey Wertheim, Glen Langenburg, Alice Maceo and John Vanderkolk. All fingerprint leaders in their field. All are widely published. If I have one thing to say, apart from thank you for the kind words, it is to all practitioners out there to think about the work they do, spend some time asking what it is that could be improved or changed, ask some really interesting research questions then get out there and do the research!! We need more authors contributing to peer review journals, not the same old contributors, but new blood, with new thoughts and new ideas. Oh, and one more thing, we need agencies to support this research and encourage scientists to do the research.

Onwards and upwards all!!

being one of oldies you refer to may I also offer my congratulations, no easy task. I only have done two postgrad papers on forensic science so the mind boggles at the achievement.

You deserve recognition for your academic achievement as something you earned. From here, that seems to have been largely a solo effort. You deserve credit for your vast dedication and involvement in a profession you obviously adore. From what I have observed, passion is strictly individual.
