Change to CLPEX

Post by Boyd Baumgartner »

I helped restore the website a couple months ago when it was down and talked with Kasey about the site. He was interested in handing it off and I offered to take it over with the help of Steve and Josh.

That being said, you may notice the board go down for brief periods of time over the next couple of days because I'm moving the hosting to a different company with better back end tools. At this point I plan on leaving the board as is and replacing the main bones of the page with software that will allow us to input and display content in a better way, so get ready for some changes. My hope is that this can continue to be a place where information can be disseminated, resources linked/hosted and content created by members from the community. It would be nice to have some additional features as well like a review section for training classes, perhaps a few podcasts and a library. I welcome input and contribution by anyone with something to say.

Great news!!!

I would like to see a "private" side to the forum where people could network and collaborate for case consultations, research and such things not quite suitable for public dissemination. The community is small enough where people could be vetted for inclusion by peers.

Hi Boyd,
Looking good, but will all of the old stuff that was on the left hand side of the old site be coming back (former weekly Details, interesting comparisons, even the smileys, etc.)? Those were valuable resources. Oh, and last but not least, thanks for taking this on!

Hi Mark,
It most certainly will. As part of my agreement with Kasey, I am taking over the swgfast stuff too, so Phase I involves pulling all the old info and getting a new content management system operating (Wordpress). For the most part, that is done. Phase II will be to figure out what can be imported into Wordpress and what cannot. What can will be, and what can't will remain in the format it was on legacy CLPEX. If you have any suggestions on how you've seen it done well on other sites or know of plugins or resources you'd like included, I'm all ears.

Update: I have a new menu on the main clpex.com site titled 'Legacy'. The SWGFAST stuff is already there.

I upgraded the phpBB database to the latest version and also restored the smiley face icons on the right of the message editor as well. I'm sure there will be no problem telling when people are being mean/happy/ironic/etc.

I also added some custom code for us to insert youtube videos as well as a shortcode button on the message editor. I Just click the 'youtube' button and it will add two tags. In between the two tags just put the video code (the random string of letters for the vid). In the video below, the code is ZKi1CKTRCQM. If you notice anything wonky after the upgrade, let me know.

I want to applaud Boyd and Steve for their continued effort to keep clpex.com running, including the forum. Kasey was but one guy and keeping it fresh and updated was hard! I am looking forward to helping out in any way that I can.

I also want to thank Stephanie (SPotter), who has been keeping the spirit of the original "Weekly Detail" alive by posting news articles to start each week. We've now separated them and removed the Google search link. However, we still need to figure out how to default it to sorting by the newest post. It can be changed by the user, but we'd like it to default this way.

However, if you do view this thread, you can go to the arrow below where it says last post to jump directly to the newest addition.
