I believe that the MSDS from Sirchie is their MIXTURE, their WORKING solution of Ardrox and not the raw material of Ardrox. Since Ardrox has about the same consistency as thick syrup, most everyone dilutes it into a working solution which is much easier to use and rinse off.

Unfortunately, I don't know the chemical structure of the undiluted material.

There are several variations of Ardrox available commercially, depending on the intended use. Latent print development borrows what was originally developed for other uses. I believe the most common used in the U.S. for latent print development is known as Ardrox P133D.

Since I see so many confusing answers, I thought I would help define what Ardrox is. It is an industrial dye penetrant mixture (Ardrox P-133D), and composed of four ingredients. It contains a yellow dye, and optical brightener, a wetting agent, a surfactant, and mostly light mineral oil. If you look up some of the earlier articles in JFI you will see that it is soluble in Ethanol (recomend denatured) and Isopropanol. And one company (Sirchie) mixes it with methanol and the oil separates out which reduces its effectiveness.
