Dear Site Administrator,
As indicated by David Charlton in a posting on 2nd March the Fingerprint Society has chosen to invite Mr. Les Brown to lecture at their March conference in Gwent.
While I have no issue with the invitation I take the greatest exception to lies about myself being printed in the Society’s magazine ‘Fingerprint Whorld’.
As the matter has been raised on this website and while I will be writing separately to the Society I feel it is important that potential delegates fully understand the facts behind Mr. Brown’s so called campaign for ‘truth’. Along with others he has been responsible for the spread of sexual innuendo and gossip about Shirley and lies about my part in the suspension of a Justice Organisation called ‘A Search for Justice’.
The magazine quotes Mr Brown:
‘In March of 2006 1 was approached by Officers of SCRO Strathclyde Police to assist them in their fight to clear their names relative to the Shirley McKie case. I was astounded to learn that two days after agreeing to assist and, as a result of a phone call from lain McKie to my co-founder a Search for Justice was disbanded.’
(FINGERPRINT WHORLD Vol. 33 No 127 March 2007 page 109)
I have spoken to the founder of a ‘Search for Justice’, Bryan Davies, and he has given me the following statement.
Les Brown: Fingerprint World Vol. 33 No. 127 March 2007
Whilst I have no inclination to become embroiled in the affairs of
Les Brown, as co-founder of A Search For Justice I feel it has now
become incumbent upon me to set the record straight regarding the
temporary suspension of A Search For Justice which is fully functional
and has not been disbanded as Les Brown states in his article.
In the week leading up to the suspension of ASFJ I had expressed my
misgivings to Mr Brown regarding any involvement with the SCRO
officers. Despite this Mr Brown arranged a meeting with the SCRO
officers, the press, and myself. I refused to attend and informed Mr
Brown and the press that if he wished to pursue this line then he
should do so as an individual and not as a representative of ASFJ.
Allegations that Ms McKie had a sexual encounter at the murder scene
of Marion Ross were made. The journalist present refused to publish.
Mr Brown then phoned at least two newspapers repeating these
allegations. Of course Iain McKie learned of these allegations
contacted ASFJ, which was me, and following conformation that they
had indeed been made, I closed down ASFJ, published a disclaimer that
ASFJ disassociates itself with Les Brown and these allegations.
Iain McKie was not the catalyst behind the suspension of ASFJ. It was
Les Brown himself.
Bryan Davies.
This statement can be supported by other witnesses should this become necessary. Mr. Davies remains willing to authenticate himself as required.
I remain willing to debate my daughter’s case on any stage at any time providing my fellow debaters speak the truth and make their identity known.

I heard the story of Shirley McKie’s (then Cardwell) ‘indiscretion’ in 43 Irvine road years ago, long before Les Brown was involved. I didn’t believe it then and I don’t believe it now.
I have always thought that story may have been a ‘spoiler’, circulated by someone with a little media savvy, to undermine the other stories circulating at the time!

The only time I've heard of this rumour before now was when McKie used it to threaten to not let Shirley come out and play at Justice One.
It is a horrible, disgusting use of grey propoganda, which I don't think anybody in their right mind would believe.
Seems a handy device in times of trouble though.
