Processing of leather

Post by Jrgass »

I am currently processing a pair of shoes from a homicide for fingerpirnts. The shoes are made of two materials. One of the materials a suede type leather and the other is a nylon fabric material. Any suggestoins on how to process the shoe for fingerpirnts? No blood or any other fluids are present.

Tough surface. Some might say "impossible." We have had a few rare cases of fingerprints developing on leather (shoes, knife sheaths, holsters) using extensive superglue fuming. We will hang an item in the cabinet and leave it for weeks or longer -- sometimes several dozen runs in the cabinet with other evidence. Occasionally a fingerprint will develop on the leather, but usually not. If no ridge detail shows up after a month or so, we give up. Any better ideas out there?

. I'd light source, then CNA, Rhodamine, then Multiple Metal deposition.

The suede is as you know a very difficult surface, but I’ve had results with the MMd on leather
The Nylon part probably best treated with vacuum metal deposition, if nothing CNA

Do you have access to 35So2?
