Digital Evidence Server

Post by Bob McAuley »

Lincoln P.D is looking for information on what other Agencies have found when selecting a Digital Evidence Server for storing/accessing digital evidence. Any suggestions or information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey Bob - There is no rocket science to building an archive for your digital evidence. I always recommend full redundancy, a back-up, and setting permissions for read/write, but not rewrite. I also recommend that whether you choose to use a database or not that the files be stored in a simple hierarchical manner so that they can be easily retrieved should anything go bad with the database application.

I'd be happy to follow-up with more specifics here or off-line.
