Dear all......whatever the politics that has gone by over last months, let us not forget that there is much that is good about the Society. One is the presentation to nominated individuals of prestigious awards for outstanding work and or research in the domain of fingerprints.

The Fingerprint Society has two awards which can be presented to individuals / organisations who have demonstrated they have made outstanding contribution to not only The Fingerprint Society, but also to the wider fingerprint profession.

LEWIS MINSHALL AWARD
The Lewis Minshall Award is awarded on an annual basis to an individual who it is agreed has made an outstanding contribution to The Fingerprint Society over the year. This award may recognise service to the Society or perhaps could be awarded as a result of contributions made to the journal. Either way, it will be up to you, the membership to nominate who you feel is a worthy recipient of the Award. If there are no nominations forthcoming, the committee reserve the right to award it to an individual of their choosing.

HENRY MEDAL
The Henry Medal will be awarded on an infrequent basis, but could be awarded annually if suitable candidates are submitted. This award will be made to individuals or organisations that have made an outstanding contribution for the good of the Profession. Past winners have included New Scotland Yard for 100 years of the Metropolitan Police Fingerprint Bureau and Michael Baxter, previously Chief Constable of Cumbria and Chair of the National Fingerprint Board.

All that’s required is your nominations and a brief resume of why the nominee/s should be selected. In September, the committee will assess the nominations with a view to making the awards, which will be presented at the Annual Educational Conference.

I had a day off yesterday and spent most of it upgrading the website... including the nominations section on our Awards page.

There are many people who indeed deserve praise and acknowledgement for the work they have carried out. The recipients of the awards DO NOT have to be members of The Society (although The Lewis Minshall Award does state that the person must have done something positive to promote The Society), but the person nominating does.

I will be distributing an e-newsletter on 1st May outlining the changes I have made. It will be the first newsletter since the end of January, as I have spent the majority of my free time concentrating on the website.

I will post a link to the newsletter on this site as soon as it has been published.
