Injury and Disease on Friction Skin

I am writing a research paper for my training on the "effects of injury and disease on friction skin" and have come across some unfamiliar terminology. I have found a research article (by Charles Parker-SCAFO online article) describing a friction ridge malformation known as a "cuspal", where " the ridges flow from the base of the finger in an upward direction to the top of the finger...". I have been unsuccessful in finding this term in other articles. However, I have found "ridges-off-the-end", in which the "ridges run vertically off the end of the finger...(by T.J.David)" Are these terms interchangeable?

Would anyone have any reliable research/articles or suggestions (possibly examples)?
