Austin Shephard and I would like to do a research project. This research project isn’t in regards to latent prints so fingerprint practitioners that work with 10-prints or latents can participate.
This project has 5 different steps and it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes for each step. The first step is to send a CV in so that training and experience can be established. After we receive an adequate number of participants then the second step will be sent out.
If you are interested, please send your CV to me at s.triplett@comcast.net and to ashepherd@columbusms.org . No information about individuals will be given out. This information will only be used to establish the level of expertise of the participants. If you don’t have a CV but would still like to participate then you can send an email that includes the following information.
Are you a practicing Latent Print Examiner or 10-print examiner?
How long have you held this position?
What county do you work in?
Are you certified?
Do you work for a city, county, state, federal, or independent agency?
Are you proficiency tested yearly?
If so, is it an internal or external proficiency test?
Is this test an individual test or group test?
What is your education level?
Did you go through an internal training program?
If so, how long was it?
Prior to conducting fingerprint comparisons as an expert (outside of training), did you go through external fingerprint training?
If so, number of general classes (non-comparison classes)?
How many total hours of non-comparison classes?
Number of comparison classes?
How many total hours of comparison classes?
Thanks,

Re: Research Participants Wanted
I just wanted to bump this topic up and to provide some additional information should anyone have questions. I fyou have any further questions please contact Michele or myself. Michele asked me to pass this along in response to some questions from possible participants.
The research project will just be a few comparisons and a few questions.
Any information of who participated or their results will not be disseminated. All information will be kept private. The final results will only be given out in terms of percentages of those who participated.
All participants will only be representing themselves, not their agency.
"If" there came a time when we'd have to supply the names of research participants prior to publication, then we'd only release the names of participants that give approval. We'd ask for this approval prior to giving out any names. I'm not anticipating that this would ever be an issue, I'm just speculating that it's possible. If this did occur, the names would be given to the editor of the journal we submit to, they wouldn't be put in the final paper.
The cutoff date to participate will be March 27, 2009.
Thank you to everyone who has responded so far. We should be contacting you soon.
