The second case mentioned was from Victoria, Texas. A Child Protective Services supervisor was murdered and the body left in a field. The dog tracked from the body to the victim's house and then to the ex-captain's house, crossing roads, including an interstate highway, the route obviously requiring a car. Likely a case of unconsciously cuing the dog. Unless you're lucky enough that the car drove through something unusual (as in the Sherlock Holmes story in which the carriage drove through something, spilled treacle, I think), dogs can't track cars. The ex-captain had dated the victim. Very high-profile case in which he was repeatedly mentioned as a "person of interest." The son of another ex-boyfriend was later convicted.
